The City of Loveland is a self-governing municipality in Larimer County, Colorado, United States. Loveland is located 46 miles (74 kilometers) north of the Colorado State Capitol in Denver and is the state’s 14th largest city. Loveland had a population of 76,378 residents as of the 2020 census. The city is located in the Fort Collins-Loveland Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is part of the Front Range Urban Corridor. Thompson R2-J School District administers the city’s public schools. As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of 50,608, 19,741 households, and 14,035 families. The population density was 2,059.7 inhabitants per square mile (795.3 inhabitants per km2). There were 20,299 dwelling units at an average density of 826.2 dwelling units per square mile (319.0 dwelling units per km2). The city’s racial composition was 92.85% White, 0.37 percent Black, 0.69 percent Native American, 0.83 percent Asian, 0.03 percent Pacific Islander, 3.21 percent other races, and 2.02 percent of residents who identified as having two or more races. 8.57 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race. The city is located in the Colorado Front Range region at the foot of the mountains, just east of the mouth of Big Thompson River Canyon, near the confluence of United States Highways 34 and 287.
