Severance is a Statutory Town located in Weld County, Colorado. At the 2010 census, the population was 3,165. The community is located on the Eastern Plains of Colorado, northwest of Greeley, at a county road junction. Since 1894, Severance has had a post office. The community was named for David Severance, a pioneer resident. At Bruce’s Bar, a local landmark, Rocky Mountain oysters are offered. Additionally, Severance is home to KRKA radio, an Air 1 station with a signal that can be heard as far away as Denver. As of the 2000 census, the town had a population of 597 people, 201 households, and 162 families. The population density was 288.5 inhabitants per square mile (111.4 inhabitants per km2). There were 207 dwelling units at an average density of 100.0 dwelling units per square mile (38.6 dwelling units per km2). The town was 91.46 percent White, 0.34 percent African American, 0.67 percent Native American, 0.34 percent Asian, 5.19 percent other races, and 2.01 percent of those who identified as having two or more races. Latino or Hispanic people of any race made up 11.39 percent of the population. The town’s median household income was $50,625, and the median family income was $55,781. Males earned a median income of $40,375, while females earned $26,645 on average. The town’s per capita income was $17,625.
