Bellvue is a census-designated place (CDP) and United States Post Office in Larimer County, Colorado. Pleasant Valley is a tiny agricultural village located northwest of Fort Collins near the mouth of the Poudre Canyon, between the Dakota Hogback ridge and the Rocky Mountain foothills. The Bellvue Post Office has the ZIP code 80512. The town is located on the south bank of the Cache la Poudre River, at the mouth of Rist Canyon, hidden from the open Colorado Piedmont between Fort Collins and LaPorte by the Bellvue Dome, commonly known as “Goat Hill.” Previously, the valley extended southward between the hogback and foothills, into the area currently covered by Horsetooth Reservoir. The valley’s primary agriculture is comprised of hay and other crops, as well as cattle and horse farms. In the valley just north of the Bellvue townsite, the Colorado Division of Wildlife operates a sizable trout hatchery. The Union Pacific Railroad deemed the location desirable due to the numerous stone quarries located near the town of Stout (now flooded by Horsetooth Reservoir). Flowers established a general store, saloon, barbershop, and post office in response to the influx of railroad workers employed in the quarries. In 1880, he constructed a one-story sandstone edifice for the purpose of housing his business. On June 24, 1884, the structure was dedicated to the Bellvue Post Office. The structure was used as a general store and post office until the middle of the twentieth century when it was converted into the meeting house of Cache la Poudre Grange, Chapter 456 of the Colorado State Grange, a name for which it is now widely known.
